- Find joy in every journey. The year 2010 was an eventful one--understatement of the year. I was in the deepest love I knew, turned twenty-one, got my heart massacred Boston-style, found my long lost self, polished her up a bit, discovered new passions, stumbled upon promotions and academic scholarships, experienced a reality check concerning my dad's health, adopted the best kitty in the history of ever (despite my general distaste for cats), and connected with family and friends on a deeper level. Overall, not too shabby. But it was a hard year for me nonetheless, dealing with a first-time broken heart after a messy end to a pretty stellar two-year relationship and redefining my life according to the change in lifestyle. It's not always obvious, but I'm starting to believe there is a joy in every journey that life takes me through. Sometimes it just takes a little extra time and reflection to truly see it.
- Secrets don't make friends. And secrets don't make boyfriends either. If there's one thing I learned from my first and most recent relationship, it's that you can't hope for trust. I practiced what I called "blind faith," but the question of honest trust was always nagging. I will never understand why anyone feels the need to hide the truth. If it's truly love, understanding and forgiveness are part of the warranty plan. Besides, secrets don't typically stay secrets and it hurts a whole hell of a lot more the longer it's dragged out, believe me. So save everyone a little heartache and just say what you mean, act responsibly on how you really feel. The truth hurts sometimes, but it's a lot more bearable than the moment you realize everything you've been told was a lie and you were really just spending your summer playing a game. No more settling for wishful thinking.
- When you see your wave, turn and burn, baby! Life is too short and too extraordinary to duck dive and let great opportunities pass you over just because they look a little intimidating or ominous. I mean, obviously don't take the drop at Pipeline if you've never surfed a day in your life, but this is a hypothetical metaphor for life, remember? Turn that board, paddle your little heart out, and own that wave! You'll for sure have something to tell your grandkids someday :)
- Follow the nose. On a powder day when there's a fresh untouched blanket of snow, not a line in sight, the possibilities are endless. Sure, you gotta watch out for the trees, precarious cliffs, and perhaps possible occasional avies, but really, you can take any line you want! Just take a chance and follow the nose as it cruises through that weightless, cloud nine-like pow and see where you end up. Oh, and don't forget to embrace the ride there, falls and all. In my snowboard I trust to bring me happiness, love, and purpose...well it already does that in the literal sense. I'm just really milking the life metaphors in this post...
Namaste.

Sounds like a roller coaster through Niagra Falls, not literally, but glad to hear your holding on to your true self while everyone else is flailing.¦] You have a friend in me. Bear Necessities song will cure a rough day. Promise.
